TACID Talent Contest at Chopstix Dueling Piano Bar
November 4, 2009

TACID Talent Show

Please, join us for a evening of fun and entertainment. People from across the Pacific Northwest will perform just for you. There will be prizes for the most talented, selected by professional entertainment industry judges. Perhaps, you will see tomorrow's super stars before they become famous. Proceeds will be used to continue our many community programs at TACID (Tacoma Area Coalition for Individuals with Disabilities).

Chairman Carl Reneman secured a great venue for us. The event will be held at Chopstix Dueling Piano Bar at 2702 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98406 from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. Please, print out a copy of our Talent Show Flyer to share with your talented friends to help market the evening of entertainment.

TACID Talent Show Participants.

We have been choosing some great talent for our November show. Auditions have been progressing over the summer. Our last audition will be held 5:00-9:00 p.m. on September 2, 2009. Interested participants should email to arrange for an audition time. Our audition judges (Don Doman, Lisa Horn, Carl Reneman, and Don Izenman) have been enjoying audition night entertainment. So far, we have about a dozen single acts as well as six local bands.

  • Contest Judges

    Debbie Wooten.

  • Comedian Debbie Wooten - Comedian Debbie Wooten is an expert on overcoming adversity. Debbie has suffered adversity. Born with Spina Bifida, Debbie contracted Polio when she was only five months old. Because of her skin color the white kids wouldn't play with her and the black kids didn't accept her because she was different. Her adult life wasn't much easier. She had two marriages that ended, one because of suicide, one because of abuse. But fortunately for her audiences she's taken her problems and faced them with strength, grace and a lot of humor. Debbie speaks to thousands of people every year to consistent rave reviews and standing ovations. Recently Debbie was chosen out of 20,000 people as the 'cover girl' for an advertising campaign for Washington State's health system. Debbie's message is simple: "See people for who they are on the inside." It doesn't get more basic than that and it doesn't get more true.

    Ed Taylor.

  • Jazz Guitarist Ed Taylor - "I want to play and write creative music that can uplift the lives of everyday people," says guitarist-vocalist Ed Taylor. Throughout his career, Taylor has performed a wide variety of music that consistently pleases both himself and his audience. His accessible guitar and vocals are distinctive and memorable, as can be heard on his CD, which is named after his group, TaylorMade. TaylorMade works an average of four or five nights a week in the Tacoma area. "We segue between jazz, r&b, smooth jazz, funk, rock and blues. If you don't know the blues, you can't play anything else. My band knows the blues!" The group is currently working on a DVD and a CD that is titled Songs From A Taylor which is a collection of the band's favorite songs including tributes to other artists. Ed Taylor is proud to be supported by Gibson Guitars.
