Meet our Independent Living Specialist For the Blind and Partially Sighted, Laura Beigh, MSW

Laura has had many great experiences in working with the blind community.  As a native of Southern California, she had worked with visually impaired pre-school children and their families while employed by the Braille Institute in Los Angeles.  After moving to Eastern Washington, Laura volunteered as crisis interventionist for the local mental health agency and also volunteered with Children's Village as a consultant/teacher for blind children and their families.  While in Yakima, she also co-founded the Yakima Valley Council of the Blind.  Laura then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Social Work from Eastern Washington University before joining us here at TACID in November of 2004.  Laura says "with the right aids and skills, persons who are blind can do many things and can live independently."  Laura knows this first hand as she has been legally blind from birth.
