Further Information:
The Mental Health Resource Center at TACID is a community built on peer support. We are consumers reaching out to other consumers, family members and advocates to encourage interest in recovery. In doing this, the Program Manager works in a recovery based program. By education, mutual support, and increasing our personal skills, we can become what we want to be.
Support groups offer many benefits to those who get involved in them. They provide a sense of belonging, an improvement in self esteem, examples of recovering people, examples of positive coping, knowledge and information, meaningful connections, the antidote for loneliness, new friendships, encouragement to get better, to be self-reliant, reinforcement of positive action, hope, listening, not advice, forgiving, not shame, non-judgment, caring, practical and emotional support, a chance to express feelings and concerns, problem-solving and coping strategies, encouragement of realistic expectations and goals, understanding from people who have been there, and acceptance just as we are. Support groups provide an accepting environment where members can be themselves. Support groups provide a safe place to accept one’s illness and the recovery work to be done. The bottom line TACID is unconditional acceptance and respect.
The way to refer a consumer to a support group at TACID is by giving them the information of the name of the group, and the day and time it meets. They can call and get more specific information and directions if they need to. It is not necessary for them to call first, although this does help them to establish a contact or connection before they show up. Our support groups are on a drop in type basis.

The TACID Center includes a large multi purpose room, two classrooms, a resource room and a lounge/library for group meetings and other activities. Groups representing many disabilities meet here free-of-charge.
Click here for the TACID Disability and Support Group Calendar . The groups listed range from “A” Autism Society almost through Z” Women’s Issues.
Most major disabilities are represented: physical, sensory (deafness and blindness), developmental and mental health. Some groups are facilitated by TACID staff or volunteers. Others are run by members of the particular organization themselves. In most cases you can just show up, but it is a good idea to contact the person named on the calendar first. Most groups are free of charge but some have a small membership fee. Unless otherwise stated, all groups meet at the TACID Center.
If you want to reserve a room for your disability support group meetings click here .
